Lynmar Estate is a sustainable vineyard and winery located in Sebastopol, in Sonoma County, CA. The vineyard is surrounded by a number of mixed edible and ornamental gardens that supplies food to our kitchen, flowers for our tasting room, and habitat for countless birds, bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, frogs, lizards, beneficial insects, etc... as well as donations to local non-profits and school gardens.
We are looking for one intern to work on a variety of garden-related projects in our gardens. A main focus for the Garden Intern will be to assist the Garden Supervisor in evaluating and documenting variety trials for various fruits and vegetables grown in the gardens. Some of the things the intern will be assisting in evaluating include: adaptability to climate and soils, disease and pest resistance, flavor and how well they pair with our wines, yield, etc... One of our focuses is saving seed from exceptional varieties of plants, so the intern will be directly involved in identifying which plants are worth saving seed from. Another important task will be to give garden tours to visiting customers when the Garden Supervisor is unavailable to do so. Other tasks include: Harvesting fruits, vegetables, and flowers; making flower bouquets; planting; weeding; etc...
We are looking for someone who is excited about learning more about edible landscaping, seed saving, and engaging with the public. Days and hours can be flexible, depending on availability. Although previous farming/gardening experience is not necessary, we are looking for volunteers who can maintain a positive attitude while engaging in the work. Some work will also require careful attention to detail, so volunteers must be able to follow directions well, have excellent communication skills, and feel confident in engaging with the public.
Compensation is $10/hour for 15 -20 hours/week. Must be available 2 -3 days / week and able to work some Saturdays.
The internship will run from early May until October.
Please send us an e-mail if you are interested and we would be happy to answer any questions and provide any additional information. Thank you for your interest!
